On Saturday, I was at 50 North Pub & Eatery for a comedy competition. Did I win? No. Did I have fun? Absolutely. And honestly, that’s the part that matters. Making people laugh is why I do this. Even though I didn’t leave with a win, the sound of the crowd laughing made it all worth it.
The next night, I was in Calgary performing for a smaller audience, about 20 people. It was one of those intimate rooms where every laugh feels personal. I also had the chance to perform alongside comedians who had just come out of workshops. It felt like I was watching future stars in real time, and somehow getting to be part of that moment.
Then Monday rolled around, and I was back in Red Deer for another open mic. Three days, three stages, three reminders of why I love stand-up comedy so much.
It’s the joy. It’s the laughter. It’s that feeling of being exactly where I’m supposed to be when I’m on stage.
Why do I do stand-up comedy? Because I love it. Simple as that.
And yeah, getting paid a little here and there doesn’t hurt either.
I might not be a superstar, but the passion doesn’t fade. Not even close.
Now it’s time for a short stand-up comedy siesta until April 11, when I head back to Calgary for the FunnyFest competition. This will be my third year competing, and each time I’ve made it into the top 10.
Could this be the year I win? We’ll see.
Will I have fun either way?
Absolutely. Thank you for reading my little update. Interested in purchasing some
Blind Guy Comedy Merchandise? I have 8 T-shirts available. I ship anywhere in North America. Say you love BGC by wearing a T-shirt that says. "I quit going to the gym because I wasn't seeing the results." Take care from your favourite blind comedian.
