Well, this is pretty cool. On Friday, October 2, 2026, I’ll be heading to Edmonton to perform at the Must Be Nice Indigenous Comedy Showcase, presented by the Rubaboo Arts Festival. As an Indigenous comedian, getting opportunities like this means a lot to me. I’ve spent nine years doing stand-up, performing hundreds of shows, walking onto stages with my white cane and occasionally wondering whether I’m facing the audience or about to deliver 20 minutes directly to a curtain.
So far, it’s worked out. An Incredible Indigenous Comedy Lineup This showcase has a seriously stacked lineup of Indigenous comedians, including Shy Sapp, Jared Wolf Child, Sausha Supernault, Danny Knight, Shawn Cuthand, Briana Lambert, Chief Joe, Issa Kixen, Art Bellerose, Auntie Tic, Kaitlynn Brighthose, Austin Ahenakew, Arsan Buffin, Al Crawford and more.
And somewhere on that poster, under “Also featuring,” you’ll find J.R. Bjornson. Hey, they spelled my name correctly. We’re already off to an excellent start. One of my favourite things about stand-up has always been where it takes me. I started comedy because I wanted to make people laugh. Nine years later, somehow this blind guy from Red Deer Alberta is still carrying a white cane onto stages, meeting incredible performers, travelling to new places and getting opportunities I never could have predicted when I started. If you’re in Edmonton, come say hello.
